The Estonian National Museum actually starts from the city centre – it is less than 2 km from the main square to the museum if you use Roosi street. Street works as a direct link which is multi-layered, fascinating and a good 15 minute walk.

Roosi Street has been redesigned as a pedestrian-focused street connecting the center of Tartu to the Estonian National Museum. A 4-meter-wide promenade shared by pedestrians and cyclists runs along one side, while cars are allocated minimal necessary space. The streetscape is enriched with native plant communities mown once a year, and a pocket park with berry bushes, a sandbox, and a hill for climbing and sledding. Before reaching the museum, a boardwalk through the overgrown former military area offers an alternative route and a green pause. Flanked by barbed wire, it serves as a fitting introduction to the museum’s architecture.
